For Mercy

Almighty God, you have not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities; grant that we, who for our evil deeds deserve to be punished, by the might of your grace may mercifully be relieved; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Saints & Holy Days

CalendarSaintsLectionary

Hebrews calls them a great cloud of witnesses, and says that we are surrounded by them as we run our own race with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. This is that cloud, kept as a calendar. Each day remembers Christians who ran before us, gives thanks to God for them, and asks for the same grace that was at work in their lives.

Prayer here is offered to God, never to the saints. Their stories are told as the Church has received them, and their histories are set out with the sources named and the uncertain places marked as uncertain. Why we remember the saints.
