For Guidance

O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices; that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path we may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For the Restoration of Health

Almighty God and heavenly Father, we bless and praise your Name on behalf of your servants whose health has been restored, and we give you humble thanks that you have been pleased to deliver him from sickness. Grant, O gracious Father, that by your help he may live in this world according to your will, and be made a partaker of everlasting glory in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

This thanksgiving for someone's recovery from illness has a homely, American pedigree: it began in the 1892 U.S. Prayer Book as a prayer just for a recovered child, and was only generalized into today's all-purpose "Restoration of Health" collect nearly ninety years later, in 1979.
