For Guidance

O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices; that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path we may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gracious and everliving Father, you have given the Holy Spirit to abide with us for ever: Bless, we pray, with the Holy Spirit’s grace and presence, the Bishop(s), Priests, Deacons, and all the Laity who assemble in your Name; that your Church, being preserved in true faith and godly discipline, may fulfill the will of him who loved her and gave himself for her, your Son Jesus Christ our Savior; who now lives and reigns with you and the same Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

A prayer for the Spirit's guidance over church gatherings, woven from Christ's promise of the Paraclete in John 14 and Paul's image of the Church as Christ's beloved in Ephesians 5. Composed by the Episcopal Church's Standing Liturgical Commission for the 1979 BCP and lightly adapted for the ACNA BCP 2019.
